Noir Aesthetics in the Digital Age

There’s something timeless about the detective’s office. The venetian blinds casting stripes across the floor. The filing cabinet full of cases that never quite close. The bottle in the drawer—for clients, you tell yourself.

In 2025, my office is a laptop. My filing cabinet is a notes app. My blinds are whatever the weather app says they should be. And yet the feeling persists. The hunt for truth. The satisfaction of a puzzle solved. The weight of knowing that some stories don’t end neatly.

Maybe noir isn’t about fedoras and trench coats. Maybe it’s about the moment before the reveal—when anything could still be true, when the world is full of possibilities, when the next clue might change everything.

Or maybe I just like the aesthetic. Probably both.
